Video#37: Surfs Up@Hoddevika

This weekend we went as far west as you can go in Norway. Our mission was surfing, and we stayed at Stad surf camp in Hoddevika. Thomas, Thomas and Trym are no strangers to surfing. Lina and me on the other hand, we could definitely do with another training session or two (read: twenty).

Video #36: Høstutstillingen 2009

The yearly art exhibition Høstutstillingen opened this Saturday. It is the 122nd exhibition, and 112 pieces are displayed. I enjoyed the total diversity of the art and especially the failed knitting projects by Kari Steinhaug, the Hangman by Svein Møxvold, Galleries by Gro Thorsen and the drawings by Sverre Malling. Other highlights: Pushwagners pieces and the pornographic drawings inspired by an IKEA catalogue by Steingrim Veum.

Video #35: Røyksopp and the girls, Øyafestivalen 2009

It has been a week since the Øya festival. During the final Øya act the sound was shitty and it was extremely wet, but we really enjoyed the performance by Røyksopp, Robin, Karin Dreijer-Andersson and Anneli Drecker. Next years Øya tickets are out for sale in December 09.

Video #32: Opening show, Oslo Fashion Week

Oslo Fashion week kicked off yesterday evening at Oslo Congress Center. In my opinion the spring, summer 2010 trend show was a bit boring and predictable, but the debutant collection was fun. The debutant designer is called Linn Rene Blegeberg. She got the inspiration from interviewing different people about their wardrobes and by focusing on their ugliest piece of clothing.

Video #31: The Nordic Pavilion, Venezia la Biennale 2009

I really enjoyed the Nordic Pavilion as part of the bienalle in Venice. The curators Elmgreen & Dragset combined the Danish and the Nordic pavilion houses and transformed  them into "real"residences. The first house was out for sale and the other housed a design oriented man with a big appetite for young men.

Video #30: More Biennale 2009, Giardini

This video is shot in the garden - giardini of the bienalle in Venice. Yoko Onos piece was part of the main exhibition, and other pieces were part of the different international pavilions.

Video #29: Venezia la Biennale 2009, Arsenale

We visited the la biennale in Venice, Italy some weeks ago. We spent two days crawling the exhibition, and once again it was fantastic. On the biennale website the director Daniel Birnbaum explains the title and theme: “The title of the exhibition, Making Worlds, Fare Mondi, expresses my wish to emphasize the process of creation. A work of art represents a vision of the world and if taken seriously it can be seen as way of making a world.”

Video#28: Me gusta sailing

Learning to sail in the azur colored waters of Croatia was great. The sailing conditions were perfect for novises like us; good wind and calm sea. We were twelve people in two boats and sailed from Split to the beautiful islands of Hvar, Vis and Brach during one week. Trym and I didn't know anybody in advance, and I admit I was a bit sceptical, but everyone got along really well, and it was a lot of fun.

Video#27: Oslo Live 09

I attended Oslo Live Festival July 1st and listened to Karin Park, the Klaxons and 2manydjs.
I love the festival initiative, especially the 99,- Nok cover charge, but I believe some of the musical acts sounds better in a crowded, sweaty and dark club.

Hot Holiday Items

Vacation is up next, and we are going sailing in Croatia. I can only bring one bag, and I have never been one for light packing, so I am struggling big time.

Video #26: Happy Meal at Palace Grill

If you are looking for a nice place to eat in Oslo, Palace Grill should be considered. Trym and I were there the other day, and we are definitely going back soon.  The well renown chefs choose new ingredients everyday, and the 10 course meal is fixed and costs Nok 950,-. You can choose a wine menu which is hand picket to compliment the menu, or you can buy bottles or by the glass.  Bon Apetit!

Back on track

I almost forgot all about this blog. I wish I could forget
about shopping just as easily. Until that glorious day appears, here
are my wishes for june: Acne jacket - acnestudios.com, Matthew
Williamson for H&M belt - ebay.com, Acne gladiators -
acnestudios.com, denim shorts - Forever 21, swimsuit -
Netaporter.com, shoppingbag - Bunnyhug.co.uk, sandal -
Ray Ban wayfarer - Netaporter.com and Alexander Wang bag -
Farfetch.com. One problem: I just paid my vacation, so my
budget can hardly handle the denim shorts. They're $ 20 :-).

Thailand never lets you down, especially not in December. One
week of sun, thai food,  massages, friendly people and lazy days did us wonders,
and should be mandatory during the f... cold season.

Video #22: Les Enfants Rouges

I love Norwegian air shuttle that can fly me to lovely Paris without ruining me. Thank you Betsy and Greg for taking us to charming Les Enfants Rouges (the oldest covered food market in Paris) for a Saturday brunch. What a wonderful way to prepare for your concert later that night Bets. TO BE CONTINUED...

Personalized Paris Portions

Thank you Miss B for this fantastic weekend in Paris. At Carte Blanche the waiter
described each and one of us for the chef who made us a personalized menu. My starter was the most funky dish I have ever had in my life. It looked like burger but was a mix of a macaroon, chocolate and sardines. And, believe it or not  - it tasted really good. TO BE CONTINUED...

Video #21: Bend it like Francis Bacon

Unfortunately, but almost in the spirit of Francis Bacon, this video is totally deformed. The Francis Bacon exhibition takes place in Tate Britain September to December. I went there this Sunday, and I tried to be discrete shooting inside the museum. That wasn't very successful as anyone can tell by the result. The exhibition was extensive and good though:)

Video #20: Sunday Sunshine in Brick Lane

Lucky, lucky me, I got to go to London, for business this time, and I got to spend a Sunday off. To me as a tourist from Oslo, the most fantastic way to spend a sunday in London, is to crawl up and down Brick Lane. Here I get to listen to live music, watch people, smell the spicy barbecue, check out the BL - market and the Sunday up-market, and eat indian food or organic salads and pizzas. Yummy! And it was really sunny and warm this sunday, September 28. People were wearing shorts and slippers. TO BE CONTINUED...

Video #19:The Singing Nurse

It feels good not being the most soaked person around the table on a night out. This friday we were having pizza and beer at Hells Kitchen and this guy joined us and started singing. And it was not really late, at all. Unfortunately we can't remember his name, but he said he was a nurse. (Artist unknown). Please let me know if you know his name.

Video #18: Market Mania in Portobello Rd

Portobello Road Market is always a joy, especially on fridays when the vintage clothing area is extensive. I spotted fantastic dresses, uniform jackets, boots and bags, and the struggle was to limit myself. I bought some great grey and black boots, and not to forget some super cowboy boots. Yii-haa!!

Video #17: High-Street Heaven

In London I was happy to find the Kate Moss collection at TopShop still available - many good pieces!! I got the basic tees, tights and tank tops at American Apparel. Urban Outfitters had some fun Andy Warhol tees, and at ultra cheap Primark I got blouses and wool sweaters for only GBP 8,- a piece. In Primark you have to look a while to discover the nuggets. The video was shot in and outside the stores. TO BE CONTINUED

Video #16: London in a Nutshell

Last friday I performed a little experiment. I travelled Oslo-London-Oslo on the same day. I flew to London on the 06:50 flight and back at 20:00. My main purpose was to go shopping, and I shamefully admit that this was not an environmentally friendly act. I am considering how to redeem myself! I promise! I had 7 hours available for shopping, and I planned to do high-street shopping in Oxford street, high-end shopping in Knightsbridge and second-hand shopping in Portobello Road. Luckily I did not have time for the high-end shopping, so I can still afford to eat nuddles and dry toast the rest of the month.
The costs:
Air Fare - Nok 1000,- (roundtrip ticket)
Airport express Oslo - Nok 320,- (roundtrip)
Stansted Express - GPB 36,- (roundtrip)
Day Pass London Tube - GBP 8,-
High-street fashion shopping &&%%$$$#!!!! over budget
Second-hand shopping in Portobello Road ###%%$$!!!!! over budget

Video #15: Andy Warhol by Andy Warhol

The Andy Warhol Exhibition has been very popular week one, and the extensive collection displayed at Astrup Fearnley museum is worth nothing less than 11 billion NOK, according to D2. This video was shot on the opening a week ago. King Midas was playing Pale Blue Eyes by Velvet Underground, Warhols assistant was reading the artists poem, Pushwagner looked like he enjoyed the show and hundreds where spotting their Warhol favorites.

Andy Warhol: Art is what you can get away with

Andy Warhol should have celebrated his 80 years birthday in august. Tomorrow an extensive exhibition with 44 Warhol pieces from 1962-84 will be displayed at Astrup Fearnley museum of modern art. The exhibitor wants us to skip all the Warhol clichés and focus on the artists personal ambition and subjective conciousness. Will check it out.

Bedhead trends 09

I´ll never be a fashion show photographer as
you can tell by the pictures from the opening of Oslo Fashion
week last night. The models were sprinting down the runway,
and the only thing my camera was able to capture was
the back of their heads.

Oslo fashion week - Summer/Spring 2009

Tonight I will attend the Oslo Fashion Week opening at the Oslo Congress Center. On the menu is a spring/summer fashion trend show with a mix of all the designers, there is an award show and a secret fresh designer will show off his of her collection. There are many exciting Norwegian designers popping up at the moment, and I am really looking forward to tonight. Kudos to Pål Vassbotn for fascilitating this event for norwegian designers two times a year.

A postcard from Øya

Thank you Gine for this fun collage of Øya pix.

Øya 08: No-one ever really dies

N.E.R.D is not my favorite band. But, I must admit, I have never seen an Øya crowd jump that much up and down at a consert ever. Even if Pharrel and his guys were using their standard love and sex gimmicks, it was a fun party to attend.

Party in pairs at Øya

The Entourage + The CasioKids.

The National rules

Hurray, the Øya festival is on. The highlight so far was the National that played on the Enga stage yesterday. Other great bands I will catch during Øya:
Sonic Youth, Jose Gonzales, Lykke Li, Iron&Wine, Grinderman, Clipse, Yeasayer, Sigur Ros, The Whitest boy alive

Festival Fashion #3

This is my festival boots in colorful suede leather.
They are not even close to be a practical choice,
taken the heavy rainshowers we are expecting.
I wonder what they will look like when I am done.

Beacons Closet in Brooklyn this July.

Video camcorder for dummies

One of my best purchases ever is this fun video camcorder
Flip Mino. I got it this summer for 180 dollars in B&H in
Manhattan. It is incredibly easy to record, edit and publish.

Fashion swap party tips

Fashion swap parties are frequent on the New York party scene, and I wish that these parties would be more common in Oslo (and that someone would invite me). Off course I could take the initiative myself. Anyways, we should learn from the best, and here is the swap party connisseur Loren Silbers top 5 tips for a successful swap party:
1. Find the right location
You'll need plenty of space, good light and rest rooms. Proprietors may offer space in a bar for free in anticipation of people spending money on drinks.
2. Spread the word
Send an e-vite to friends. Allow at least two weeks lead time, as it takes most people at least that much time to gather swap items.
3. Create a party atmosphere
Present your event as a social event as well as an exchange . Plan for music and refreshments to put people at ease and encourage people to socialize.
4. Get organized ahead of time
Consider tables, hangers, signs clothing racks, sign in sheets, mirrors, dressing rooms to keep your swap organized.
5. Donate what's left to charity
It really makes people feel that what they are doing is reaching out far beyond their basic desire for more clothes.

Dane design

Yet another reason to do some credit card damage is coming up. The danish, supposed to be a genious, fashion designer Henrik Vibskov is coming to town. The store is opening in Posthallen, in Oslo today at 4 o clock. I will check it out.

Vintage rip-off!

Festival fashion #1

Its festival season, and the Øya festival is coming up. I am scouting for some festival fashion and discovered that the hyper color trend from the 90s is all hot again. I can easily change the color of my clothes by touching them. I want this tank dress from Anzevino and Florence at $ 84.

Pod stash

On my wish list: This fantastic iPod speaker, designed by Tristan Zimmerman.  Its a sculptural beauty, but the best part of it - it uses no power. It works as a VERY big earplug.

Lego love

Love these retro Lego silver-plated cufflinks from Etsy.com. Only 11 dollars. Great for gifts and eye candy.
